Officially the Kingdom of Morocco, this nation has been characterized as a crossroads of learning and trade and a centuries old link between Europe and Africa. Its architecture of medieval medinas, colonial boulevards and contemporary buildings, visually describe the country’s rich history. With coastlines on the Atlantic and Mediterranean it is the most northern and western of all African nations. Its southern border extends into the Sahara; its Atlas, Rif, and Anti-Atlas mountain ranges contribute to Morocco’s fame as one of the great travel destinations of the world. Moroccan culture is a blend of Arabic, Amazigh (Berber), European, Saharan, and other African influences. 98% of Morocco’s 32 million people self identify as Muslim.
